The Organisation
We promote health and well being through our work within Newcastle.
We recognise that issues such as where you live, what you eat, where you can spend your leisure time, what your employment opportunties are and how much influence you have on your local environment (with many other factors) can affect your health.
We seek to develop strong partnerships with a basic understanding that a holistic approach is needed to address health inequalities. We work to encourage decision makers to listen to the communities and develop appropriate services that meet real needs.
How do we do this?
- by encouraging people to consider and challenge how things are done;
- by spreading the idea of healthy cities;
- providing information about partnership and new ways of working;
- by supporting projects that aim to achieve health equality (for example, the Community Food Initiative, the Community Empowerment Network);
- by developing and identifying good practice in engaging communities and hard-to-reach-out-to groups in health issues;
- running practical projects to demonstrate action towards a healthy city;
- working with key agencies to develop healthy policy
- supporting other organisations in developing their own initiatives
- promoting work towards a healthy city through conferences, seminars and publishing documents operating at national and international level
- looking at health issues holistically, recognising the social, environmental and economic perspectives
- involving communities who are affected by the health issues
