Ban Waste

BAN Waste has its roots in the campaign that originally opposed the expansion of the Byker Incinerator. We are opposed to incineration and landfill on the grounds that they are a waste of resources as well as being unsightly and a possible danger to our health.

Since the closure of the Byker Incinerator we have transformed our role into one of promoting a zero waste policy, supporting waste reduction and recycling.

Follow the link above if you wish to know more about the history of BAN Waste as an organisation and follow the link from there if you wish to know more about the campaign against the Byker incinerator prior to the formation of BAN Waste.

As a community based organisation we are working to see the implementation in practice of a zero waste strategy in Newcastle and wider afar. To that end we are actively engaged in promoting waste reduction, composting and recycling and opposing landfill and incineration.

A zero waste strategy means less demand on the world’s resources and better employment opportunities at a local level in the reuse and recycling industries that are created. Click on Reports above to look at the various reports that BAN Waste have produced over the last few years that show why it is so important that we have such a strategy. Click on Projects find out what we are currently doing about it.
